Prosthodontist Dr. Christine Hopkins and her diverse team provide full reconstructive and cosmetic dental care to primarily adult patients in a peaceful, Zen-like atmosphere where a smile is never just a smile.
Keeping a beautiful, healthy smile for life involves more than monitoring the condition of your teeth. In fact, much of your long-term health and comfort come from having healthy gums, underlying bone, and other oral supportive structures. As a prosthodontist, Dr. Hopkins is more knowledgeable about those underlying structures than a traditional, general dentist. She will help you maintain your complete oral health and will have any necessary preventive therapy available should a concern arise.
Many times we hear patients ask, “Why is it important for me to have replacement teeth when I have a missing tooth?” We especially hear that when the missing tooth/teeth reside in the back of the mouth. The simple answer is that your mouth, jaw, and appearance function best when in equilibrium. When you have missing teeth, you are out of balance. When you are out of balance, your teeth drift, your bite changes, and facial appearance shifts. The result is that simple pleasures in life, such as eating comfortably, disappear.
Missing teeth is a serious and debilitating condition that leads to painful structural and functional problems in your mouth and face. Your remaining healthy teeth may shift as well, leaving gaps and spaces in your smile. Also, when a tooth is missing, you will encounter a gradual loss of the underlying bone and supportive structures. Bone loss is gradual, but an eventuality. Losing bone in your face causes a noticeable change in your appearance and a loss of youthfulness.
